Building Your First Business Website
April 29, 2006
Does your business have a website? If not, you may be missing out on a huge opportunity by not interacting with your current and potential customers in a timely and efficient manner.
By now most business owners are aware of how important a presence on the Web can be to their company’s marketing, sales and public relations efforts.
So says Melonie Murray of SmallBizMentor (a Know More Media blog).
In her post - Building Your First Business Website - she offers up a handful of must-haves when starting a website for your business. They are…
- An opt-in e-newsletter (this is an amazing marketing tool!)
- A shopping cart (even if you’re not selling anything just yet)
- A press room page (for media releases and media kits)
- A blog area (for adding a personal “face” to your site)
- A frequently asked questions (FAQs) page

Hi Martin! Glad to see you found the post about a first website of interest. I think Jilll over at CWAHM did a good job of breaking things down to basics as well. One other “must” that some folks seem to forget is triple checking for typos and/or grammatical errors. Never forget, small business owners, that a website may very well be the first and last chance you have to make an impression with potential clients!
(PS Let me know how many of your visitors catch the “typo” I inserted above! I’m curious to know how many folks will notice it.)
Melonie,
I guess first impressions are everything in today’s hyper-competitive environment, so crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s is simply projecting a smart business.
PS. first time I’ve heard of a Jill with 3 l’s
I think few will notice but the question how many will really care. In a blogging platform such errors are all too common (almost expected at times). Whereas, errors in a businesses product page etc., would not look good.
